چکیده

Lignocellulose-rich empty fruit bunches (EFBs) have high potential as feedstock for second-generation biofuel and biochemical production without compromising food security. Nevertheless, the major challenge of valorizing lignocellulose-rich EFB is its pretreatment cost. In this study, preliminary techno-economic feasibility expanding an existing pellet plant into integrated bio-refinery to produce xylitol bioethanol was investigated a strategy diversify cost leverage selling price biochemicals. The split stream stream. Different economic performance metrics were used compare profitability at different splitting ratios production. analysis showed that ratio below 40% economically feasible. A sensitivity had most significant impact on metrics. Another case study coproduction versus concluded cellulosic yet be market-ready, requiring minimum above current market feasible 16% acceptable return rate.

Characterisation of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches for Fuel Application

This study was an attempt to produce bio-oil from empty fruit bunches (EFB) of oil palm waste using fast pyrolysis technology. A 150 g/h fluidised bed bench scale fast pyrolysis unit operating at atmospheric pressure was used to obtain the pyrolysis liquid. A comparison of the elemental composition of unwashed and washed feedstock was made in this study. With the five methods of treatment being...

Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch to Biofuels

Crude palm oil production is reaching 48.99 million metric tonnes per year globally in 2011 and Southeast Asia is the main contributor, with Indonesia accounting for 48.79%, Malaysia 36.75%, and Thailand 2.96% (Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia, 2011). Oil palm is a multi-purpose plantation and it is also an intensive producer of biomass. Accompanying the production of one kg of palm oi...

Pulping of Empty Fruit Bunches (efb) from the Palm Oil Industry by Formic Acid

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) from palm oil were characterized. The holocellulose (66.97%), α-cellulose (47.91%), and lignin (24.45%) are similar to wood materials, and various non-wood materials, but the fiber length is shorter (0.53 mm). The influence of operational variables in the EFB pulping [formic acid (75-95%), hydrochloric acid (0.05-0.15%), and time (30-150 min)], on the yield, kappa numb...

Improvement of production of citric acid from oil palm empty fruit bunches: optimization of media by statistical experimental designs.

A sequential optimization based on statistical design and one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method was employed to optimize the media constituents for the improvement of citric acid production from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) through solid state bioconversion using Aspergillus niger IBO-103MNB. The results obtained from the Plackett-Burman design indicated that the co-substrate (sucrose), stim...

Statistical Optimization of the Enzymatic Saccharification of the Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches

A statistical optimization of the saccharification process of EFB was studied. The statistical analysis was done by applying faced centered central composite design (FCCCD) under response surface methodology (RSM). In this investigation, EFB dose, enzyme dose and saccharification period was examined, and the maximum 53.45% (w/w) yield of reducing sugar was found with 4% (w/v) of EFB, 10% (v/v) ...
